Jinja Cricket Academy Chairman Meets Games Teachers: Discusses Cricket Development in Jinja North Schools

Jinja, Uganda—In a proactive move to strengthen the foundation of cricket at the grassroots level, Mr. Kusasira Aaron, Director and Chairman of the Jinja Cricket Academy (JCA), convened a highly productive meeting with Games Teachers from various schools in Jinja North.

The gathering, held on July 7th at Kivubuka Primary School, served as a vital forum for dialogue, strategy, and collaboration, underscoring JCA’s commitment to growing the sport within the local community.

🏫 Key Stakeholders Unite for Cricket Development

The meeting brought together representatives from 10 schools in the Jinja North area, all deeply invested in the physical education and sporting success of their students.

Schools represented included:

  • Buwaji Primary School

  • Victoria Bright Primary School

  • Kivubuka Primary School (the host)

  • Lukolo Church of Uganda Primary School

  • Kyomya Primary School

  • and five other schools committed to the initiative.

The session began with the teachers sharing their direct experiences. They provided crucial feedback, detailing the challenges they face—such as limited equipment and training knowledge—as well as the successes and high enthusiasm they have seen among students who participate in cricket. This ground-level perspective is invaluable for crafting effective development strategies.

Focusing on Strategies for Growth and Participation

Mr. Kusasira Aaron steered the discussion toward actionable solutions aimed at transforming the current landscape of school cricket. The focus was on three primary pillars of development:

  1. Increasing Participation: Developing exciting, accessible programs that encourage more boys and girls to pick up a bat and ball, ensuring gender parity in early development.

  2. Improving Coaching & Mentorship: Implementing a structure for JCA to provide basic cricket coaching clinics and workshops for the Games Teachers themselves, equipping them with the knowledge to run effective school sessions.

  3. Resource Provision: Discussing potential pathways to supply essential resources, including bats, balls, and protective gear, which are often the largest barriers to entry for schools.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for teachers to share best practices—from organizing successful inter-class games to motivating students—and receive direct guidance and technical advice from the JCA Chairman.

JCA’s Unwavering Commitment

The Jinja Cricket Academy’s mission extends far beyond training its elite players; it is fundamentally about creating a sustainable, enthusiastic cricket culture across the region.

The Academy is committed to supporting schools in promoting the sport by ensuring that:

  • Follow-up Workshops are scheduled to provide hands-on coaching training for the attending Games Teachers.

  • Networking Opportunities are fostered to allow schools to organize more friendly matches and tournaments.

  • A Resource Inventory is created to identify and source the most critical equipment needs for the participating schools.

Mr. Kusasira concluded the meeting by emphasizing that this is just the beginning of a dedicated, collaborative effort. By working closely with dedicated educators like the Games Teachers in Jinja North, JCA is confident that it can successfully expand cricket’s reach, identify future talent, and offer young people a powerful pathway through sport.

The future of cricket in Jinja North is bright, built on the commitment of its passionate educators and the unwavering support of the Jinja Cricket Academy!
